Things to do in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is the largest city in Malaysia. It is situated on the east coast of the Peninsula, adjacent to Singapore. Its modern metropolis, dominated by the tallest 451m-high Petronas Twin Towers, a trio of steel-and-glass-clad buildings with elaborate Islamic-patterned facades. The towers also provide a free-standing observation tower and public sky bridge.
The old parts of the city are also quite architecturally interesting. Remnants of the colonial era can be found in the design of some buildings, for example, the old Remco Coffee House on a prominent corner in Petronas Towers. The coffee house is a nineteenth-century Remco house, previously used by the Dutch as a warehouse. Today, it serves coffee, tea, and snacks to visitors from around the world via a sky bridge.
If you want to take a walk around the old parts of Kuala Lumpur, then you should head towards the famous shopping area in Petronas Square, which is often called Walk Around Kuala Lumpur (KARL). There are several interesting shops and stores here, but perhaps the most famous is the new central business district known as the Petronas Triangle. Here, all the major companies in Kuala Lumpur operate from their own building, which features an assortment of office spaces and shopping malls. The triangle has several key places such as the Petronas Twin Towers to visit, as well as numerous other hotels, restaurants, sky bridges and skyscrapers.
Moving from the city center, tourists will be pleased to know that two other popular attractions around Kuala Lumpur are the Night Safari Park in Shah Alam and the Underwater World in Langkawi. The Night Safari Park is located in Shah Alam and is one of the best places in the city to experience the true African safari. It is home to a wide array of animals including elephants, giraffes, lions, zebras, and many others. The Underwater World of Langkawi is another fascinating attraction in the city center, known for its wonderful water rides and exhibits.
The Night Safari Park is located in the forest eco-park in Kuala Lumpur and is a popular attraction among families. Here, visitors can experience the thrill of hunting exotic mammals like elephants, lions, rhinos, and buffaloes. However, the park is open all year round and is considered one of the best parks in Malaysia. To get there, visitors can either take a taxi or a bus. The walk between the tower and the forest eco-park is about three miles long and includes some fantastic views of the city and the forest.
Moving on, visitors may want to visit the Petronas Twin Towers to experience the city’s skyline. The Petronas Twin Towers is the tallest hotel in all of Malaysia and is rising impressively from the soil. In fact, they are two beautiful hotels that sit on the edge of the Petronas River. A guided tour of the twin towers will allow visitors to step directly into the world’s most famous man-made building, as well as into Malaysia’s history. The Petronas Museum also makes a great stop while traveling through Kuala Lumpur. The museum houses a vast collection of cultural artifacts, including textiles, ceramics, wooden sculptures, glass objects, and is one of Southeast Asia’s largest museums.
