EU and EFTA citizens do not require a visa to enter Switzerland, but they need to apply and register for a Swiss residence permit if they want to stay there for longer than 3 months.
So if your country does belong to the EU or EFTA you will have to apply for a Swiss long-stay Visa before you will be allowed into their country. Afterward, you can enter Switzerland and apply for a Swiss Residence Permit.
